How Can I Help

People are often confused when they are told about sports therapists. They don’t know what exactly they do. So let me tell you that sports therapists are people who have received a fair deal of training in the field of physical therapy. They have received training in principles that have evidences of the fact that they work.

Sports therapists will also ideally have a set of massage techniques that they can make use of during their practice.

As a sports therapist I won’t just have to deal with injured athletes but I could also get clients who have issues with mobility, back pain, and have posture problems.

We discuss your health history and any current ailments, your food preferences and patterns, as well as your challenges and goals to creating the healthy life you desire. We also determine your unique lifestyle needs and desires, including your schedules, family structure, skills, values and beliefs regarding food and healthy living.

What is a sports massage?

Primarily sports massage is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery, but can be, and is frequently used for a whole range of more common musculoskeletal issues. The focus isn’t necessarily on relaxation but on preventing and treating injury and enhancing performance.


Pre-event

Sports massage is the most dynamic treatment, fast passed, stimulating and dynamic, it is used for increasing blood flow and warming the body’s muscles. At future focus we also take this opportunity to help the athlete prepare psychologically, using relaxation and visualisation techniques as part of the warm up process.

Post-event

The massage, post competing or training, is to calm the nervous system, relax the muscles and begin the process of flushing out the waste products and toxins. This element of the treatment dramatically reduces recuperation and recovery. Injury management: Injured muscles need skilful treatment and management, combining sports massage with other techniques such as: muscles energy technique, reciprocal inhibition, joint gliding and strain & counter strain can significantly improve recovery times from injury – both for athletes and the more sedentary amongst us.

Natalie Payne

England Karate Team Member
Natalie is a member of England Karate team and has been competing for over 8 years, securing 12 caps for England.

She is currently English, British and British International Champion, and also junior European silver medalist in 2013.

Natalie is currently developing her World Ranking in Kata in the WKF.
I am excited to be helping and working with Natalie and developing her sports performances.

I am helping Natalie develop her sports performance as well as providing her with regular sports massages to prevent sports injuries. Sports massages help break down any adhesions, increase range of movement and decreases any tightness she has to help prevent any injury.

Natalie needs to have at least one massage a week, as it is a valuable component in any professional and Olympic training programme across the world.

Natalie is training for the Olympics in 2020, so this is very important that I identify her needs and wants. I am also helping Natalie with her nutrition. The foods she eats will provide her with the energy to be able to do karate, it will impact her strength, training, performance and recovery. With my in-depth knowledge of nutrition I am confident that with her nutrition programme and fuelling her with Herbalife, the worlds leading nutritional company, I feel I can combine healthy eating and Herbalife together so that she is fuelled for success.

Savannah Marshall

Professional Boxer
Savannah Marshall is a British Female boxer current world boxing association inter- continental female super middle weight champion.

Savannah has competed at two Olympic Games both London 2012 and Rio 2016 making history in 2012 as one of the first women to compete at games in the sport of boxing.

Savannah has now decided to turn professional and leave team GB and focus on a new chapter following the Olympics.

I have recently started working with Savannah as one of my sponsored athletes here at Blake’s Sports, Nutrition and Massage.

As a professional boxer Savannah is going to require regular sports massages, this will have many benefits such as increasing her flexibility, reduce stress, reduce or eliminate the symptoms of repetitive strain injury, muscle pain and improve her sports performance. It will also help with relaxation, scar tissue improvement and increase better recovery by raising blood circulation to the effected spot.

Without a doubt as Savannah has regular sports massages and pre and post fight it will 100% increase her sports performance.

I will be looking at her nutrition in the coming weeks and supporting her programmes throughly.
